Tournament Rules

Session Seating

Players will be distributed randomly as evenly distributed as possible across each playing instance.

When a player qualifies for a subsequent round of play, they will be issued a sticker to place on their GENCON badge.

Shot Clock

All districts will have a five minute shot clock to elect a player to the Capitol. Districts unable to reach a majority of votes for a representative will have no representation at the Capitol that round.

In some cases, games will advance faster than the shot clock. This is okay and builds in extra time for later turns.

In the unlikely event that no Districts are able to elect representatives, referees will thoroughly shuffle the policy deck and reveal the the top card.

Preliminary Rounds

Each player will have the opportunity to play one or two preliminary games. If a player wins at least one of the two preliminary games, then they will qualify for the quarterfinal round. (Players that show up late may enter only the second preliminary game. Players that win the first preliminary game and wish to take a break may return at the quarterfinal round.) Players that do not win either of the two games are welcome to watch (but not influence) future games.

The number of players available will determine the number of instances for each preliminary game, where

  • 06-15 players remaining will play at one instance of Mischief of Faction,

  • 16-30 players remaining will play at two instances of Mischief of Faction, and

  • 31+ players remaining will play at three instances of Mischief of Faction.

Quarterfinal Round

Players must win to advance to the next session.

In the unlikely event that all players lose at a session and adding all players in the session will result in fewer than 50 players advancing to the semifinal round, then all players will advance to the semi-finals. Otherwise, all players will be eliminated from the event.

Semifinal Round

Players must win to advance to the next session.

In the unlikely event that all players lose at a session and advancing all players in the session will result in fewer than 25 players advancing to the final round, then all players will advance to the finals. Otherwise, all players will be eliminated from the event.

Finals

All players will be seated at the same final table.

In the event where greater than 25 players remain, the game will be expanded to include all players in the same session.

In the event where 12 or fewer players remain, each player will receive two faction cards and may decide which one to play during this session.

All winning players will be declared co-champion.

Prizes

All co-champions will win the following:

  • A copy of the game
